Wrapping Up

Tagged Under :

This post was intended to be published yesterday, so I’m a little sad that I technically “failed” in my challenge, but it’s close enough. I was out of town without internet or even cell signal and I left instructions for Nick to check it to make sure it posted because I wasn’t sure if I set it up right to post in the future (newsflash: I didn’t haha) but neglected to leave him my login information to do so. Whoops!

I am off visiting family today but it’s not going to stop me from getting my last post in. I’m sure I’m having a blast, as I always do. Dominic is going to have so much fun too.

It’s been a month of blogging and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I’ve come to look forward to blogging every day and it hasn’t been as hard as I thought it would be. You will definitely see me blogging on a more regular basis, now that I know it is possible to do and not go crazy, so I think it’s been very productive in that way.

By the way, Dominic is also growing by leaps and bounds. He say dada now and we moved him to a big boy bed. We also switched him to forward facing in the car seat. We are still nursing. He is a delight to spend time with and I love his enthusiasm and energy.

Nick is loving his new job. It’s been a good fit for him so we’re happy about that.

I am doing the same old same old – no exciting news for me to report right now! But I love my life so I can’t complain. 🙂

National Blog Posting Month and Questions (For You!)

Tagged Under :

Well, welcome to November. November is an interesting month, in many ways, because it is crazy and because a lot of crazy things happen in that month, including National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo – which my sister is doing and I’ve tried and failed to do in the past – where you attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November) and National Blog Posting Month – where you attempt to post every day in November on your blog. This is the one I’m going to be attempting this year. This feels like a big deal for me because I love to blog but I’m not good at doing it on a regular basis. So I’m hoping I’ll be able to do this and that it will help make me more regular in the future.

So they have prompts and today’s seemed intriguing. If you had a million dollars and had to spend it by nightfall, how would you spend it? That’s the gist of it anyways. I am going to assume for this equation that I am not paying taxes on the money, even though in reality I know there would be taxes on it which I would pay it real life (side note: I wonder if the IRS has a bot just crawling the Internet searching for people who use the phrase “I’m not paying my taxes.”). Anyways I guess here’s what I would do with the money – in a not so particular order: donate some to The Point of Grace – the campus ministry that changed my life and impacted me in ways that will be with me forever, buy our house outright and pay off all our debt, set aside enough money for Nick to go back to college if he wanted – including funds to help us live, buy a second car, donate to various charities – there are so many deserving ones out there and I know I could make one large donation to one charity, but I’d rather make a lot of smaller ones to a lot of charities – so I could help out across different areas, set aside money for Dominic to go to college, buy a Kitchenaid stand mixer and a Tula, set aside money to remove Nick’s conditions on his permanent residency, update all our passports, take a trip to visit Nick’s family in Canada, take an around the world trip – including back to Korea, go on a cruise, buy some furniture – including couches for our basement and a chest freezer and more bookshelves and a drier, and then the rest I would either save or spend on other stuff on my wish list (books, more pots and pans for my kitchen, etc). I know a lot of that is really ordinary stuff, but with Nick’s job the way it is, we often don’t have money left over for some of these bigger expenses and sometimes wonder how we will make it at all in one particular month – like this one where extra expenses popped up because of the plumbing problem we had in our basement. I don’t even know if the money would last that far, I didn’t sit down and price everything out but I just put down what I wish for when I think about the dream that we will hopefully someday have more money.

So, now I have some questions for you.

First of all, if you had a million dollars, how would you spend it? I’m curious to see your dreams.

Second, is there anything you would like to see me blog about? I have 29 days of blogging to go, so I’m definitely open to suggestion. But I’m always open for suggestion, so let me know anytime you have them.

Thanks for reading! I’ll see you tomorrow. Put your answers in the comments or on my Facebook page or wherever.

Blogger Swap: Kayleigh from A Million Little Somethings

Tagged Under :

Hi everyone! I have something special for you today. Kayleigh and I decided to swap for a day – answer ten questions posed by the other and post them on our blogs! It’s a little way for us to introduce each other to a new audience. If you want to see the questions that she asked me and my answers, you can head on over to her blog at A Million Little Somethings.

a million things to talk about

A little about Kayleigh (in her own words): I am a Christian blogger from Northcentral Wisconsin. I have lived here for my entire life but my days here are numbered…I am getting married in April and will be moving to Illinois then. Yay! There are a lot of changes going on in my life right now…follow my blog and come along for the ride!

Coffee Drink: I could totally go for a Biggby Soy Peppermint Latte right now. Yum!
Pancakes or french toast?
French toast, all the way! I like pancakes, but I love making French toast. I add a little cinnamon and vanilla extract to the egg wash and it just tastes amazing. 🙂 I also have memories of my grandma making us French toast in the mornings when she helped us get off to school in the morning. I loved when she would make it for me and every time I make French toast myself I think of that. 🙂
If you had to pick only one restaurant to eat out at for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Omygosh that’s a tough one! Now that I am lactose intolerant, picking out restaurants is a little harder to begin with. I would have to say something lame like Subway just because I know there is a variety of sandwhichs I can have that don’t have any/much lactose. But seriously, the thought of eating Subway forever is kinda sad. lol
How much time do you spend in front of the mirror getting ready in the morning?
On a cute day? Hmmm. I can usually go from shower to cute in about a half hour to 45 minutes, depending on how my hair is behaving that day. It may be a little longer if I have to put make up on. I wear my hair pinned up and that can take awhile some days. But 90% of the time I end up like Anne Hathaway in the beginning Princess Diaries…”And this is as good as it’s gonna get.” 🙂
What is your favorite book from when you were a kid?
By FAR, it was The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis. I remember my mom reading it to us at bedtime. Once I got too old for that I still read it almost every year. And actually, I still do. It is one of my favorite books of all time. I can not wait to read it to my kids someday!
How old were you when you got your first cell phone?
After high school…I really can’t remember when exactly!
What is your favorite candy bar?
I haven’t found a candy bar that I can eat since being diagnosed with Lactose Intolerance. 🙁 But my favorite candy is Haribo Gummy Bears…I don’t really enjoy any other kinds of gummy bears. Weird…I know.
What’s the strangest thing you have in your purse?
My full-size laptop, lol. I don’t have internet at home right now so I basically always have my computer with me so I can get online at work or my family’s house. Yes, my blogging has suffered a little…but I am doing the best I can!
If you were having company over and you wanted to impress them, what would you cook?
I found a recipe on Pinterest for Hawaiian BBQ Chicken. All it is is a bottle of Target brand Hawaiian BBQ sauce, a can of crushed pinapples and boneless/skinless chicken breast all thrown in a crock pot on low for 6hours or so. BEST. CHICKEN. EVER. Sweet, with the just the right amount of kick. I serve it over rice. So good.
Do you play any musical instruments?
No, I don’t. I am a little dyslexic and that makes reading music REALLY hard for me. I played Clarinet for a number of years in middle school and high school, but I don’t anymore. I would love to learn to play piano, but I just don’t know if that will ever happen. So instead, I just sing. All the time.
What’s your musical (song or artist/band) guilty pleasure?
Taylor Swift, by far. I have all of her CD’s. I seriously was in Target at 9a the day that RED came out. I remember telling the cashier I was as excited as a 14year old girl to get the CD. And because I am in Target all the time and knew my cashier, she was comfortable to laugh at me. It was fun. I love Taylor Swift. Love her.
That was so much fun! I enjoyed getting to know Kayleigh a little better and I hope you did too. Check her out over at A Million Little Somethings!

Blogger Secret Santa Exchange!

Tagged Under :

This post is a little overdue but I participated in a blogger Secret Santa organized by Jessica over at Boys Oh Boys. I had Michelle over at Divas With a Purpose. Well, this is my Secret Santa gift from Megan over at and here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson.

I have to say I loved it! Megan sent me things to pamper myself and relax and my husband would tell you that I definitely need to relax more 😉 I have a bad habit of using my time on everyone else and not taking any time for myself.

I don’t know what happened to these pictures, something was wonky when it was imported. But see all these fabulous things she sent me! There was more chocolate originally . . . but I ate some already haha.

This one contains some of my favorite things! That ball right there is a bath bomb – I love to take baths and use smelly things – bath salts, bath bombs, etc. Love them! And I was stumped when I took those rose petals out, I was like, what are those? Believe it or not they are soap! Awesome! So cool!

More lovely stuff 🙂 The nutcracker is actually hanging on my tree right now! I’ve never owned a nutcracker before. I tried to get a picture but when they were imported it turned all wonky and refused to import. 🙁 I don’t know what’s up with that.

Anyways – thank you so much Megan! I loved it! Thanks for the reminder too that I need to take time to take care of myself!

The Story of Cosmetics + New Name

Tagged Under : , ,

Fascinating isn’t it? Personally, I know a lot of times that I should be using greener products, but I find it so hard not just to reach for that free or very cheap bottle of shampoo, especially when our budget is tight. That’s why I think, in part, companies should be forced to eliminate dangerous chemicals and find new ways to do things. They’ve banned tons in Europe, but not here. I don’t think people should be forced to choose between cheap and safe since the all-natural products out there today tend to be much, much more expensive. But there has to be a greener, cheaper way to do it. And I know, I could make it myself, but at this point, it’s hard for me to commit to it. I don’t know why. I guess because I can’t change my life overnight and I’m not ready to jump there yet. I’m not perfect, so don’t rag on me.

Oh and guess what? I have a new name! The winner is Life, Love, and Dirty Diapers (hehe). That one was overwhelmingly most popular. So I’ll be changing my name and everything else today (and slowly over time, in case I miss a few places)! So I hope you keep reading along. I know this was supposed to happen yesterday, but yesterday got away from me.

Changes Around Here

Tagged Under :

I’ve been thinking really hard about what I want to do with this blog. I’ve felt a little stuck lately, caught kind of between two things. I still want to blog about women’s issues, but I also want to blog about other things – like my experience being a mother and parenting resources and my cooking and also possibly combining my book review blog into here. So after a long consideration, I thought why can’t I do all of that? So expect to see new things around here. Starting with a new background. It is my goal to blog more consistently about new things. But I need a new name for my blog (again, I know). Here’s the thing though, I’m completely at a loss of what to call it now. So suggestions? Let me know in the comments or tweet me @misslissy.

Anyways, I’m looking forward to this new endeavor and I hope you are too. I even spruced up the theme for you 😉

Guest Post Call

Tagged Under :

Hello everyone 🙂

I am being swamped with school and I’m thinking about 2 series and I would love some guest posts for them 🙂

First one is Dear Mom – basically, it’s writing a letter to your mom. It’s pretty self-explanatory, but I can tell you more of my ideas about it if you need them.

Second is “I am a strong woman because . . . ” this is one where you post about what makes you a strong woman or an experience that you overcame.

I’m open to anyone writing on my blog, but dudes, if you want to write, you could only write letters to your mom as you’re not women 😉 Anyways, if either (or both! I’m up for that) sound interesting to you, shoot me an e-mail at mkbrander@yahoo.com or tweet me @misslissy

Additionally, if there’s something else you want to write about, pitch it to me! I’m totally open.
